Refreshed NZ Curriculum
In 2025, the New Zealand Ministry of Education released a refreshed Maths & Statistics and English curriculum for NZ primary schools.
The Challenges
When the refreshed NZ curriculum was released, I was excited to dive in and explore the changes. But as I started reading through the documents on my phone, I ran into some challenges:
- The teaching sequence table was not mobile-friendly at all. It was hard to scroll, hard to read, and definitely not something I could use comfortably on the go.
- Some of the statements were hard to understand without visual support. I found myself wanting simple diagrams or examples to help make sense of what I was reading.
- I wanted to explore topics by year level and across year levels. But jumping between multiple documents made that tricky and time-consuming.
- I wanted to keep track of my progress as I explored the curriculum. There was no easy way to make notes or bookmark topics for later study.
Building a Solution
So… I built a tool to help!
It started as something small—just a better way for me to explore the teaching sequences on my phone. But as I built it, I realised this could be useful for other teachers too. So I’ve made it available for anyone who wants to give it a try.
What the Tool Offers
It’s mobile-friendly, includes includes links to YouTube videos and free resources, and makes it easy to:
- Browse by year level or zoom out to look across year levels
- Track which parts you’ve already studied
- Bookmark parts you want to come back to later
Whether you’re planning lessons, revisiting your understanding of a strand, or just want a smoother way to explore the curriculum on the go, I hope it helps.
